My Story

My journey into ring making started after a years long quest for a nice piece of jewelry for my right hand.  I looked in department stores, jewelry stores, online, and at all the local art fairs for a nice size ring for my right hand that looked masculine without being common or gaudy and all I found were wedding bands, big signet rings with bad designs or stone encrusted hunks of metal that didn’t speak to me or my aesthetic. I finally decided that if I wanted a ring that I liked I would have to make it myself.

At first I tried carving a ring out of wax and soon discovered that I have neither the skill nor the patience for that fine art. I then turned to my computer and with some 3D software I was soon able to design the rings I had been looking for.  I am drawn to bold lines, interesting shapes and symmetry, like Craftsman architecture, and the software allows me to play with proportions and scale while exploring subtle nuances in size and spatial relations in ways I could never do freehand.

Seeing my designs go from ideas in my head to images on the screen and then into reality, first as models off my 3D printer, then as cast and finished pieces never ceases to amaze me.  I get to work my mind, my hands and with many talented and generous people who are on this journey with me.  I am fortunate to be able to express myself in this way as I continue to learn about precious metal creation from design, ethical sourcing, fabrication, finishing and sales.  Being able to share my creations with others, and seeing their appreciation for what I am passionate about is just the icing on the cake and compels me to keep going and keep paying it forward as long as I can.
